PeerIndex, introduces Perklets, helps boosts local businesses.

Start-Ups - Posted: October 24, 2012

Now, Peerindex were one of our top 20 startups of 2011 and have every chance of being there in this year as well after introducing Peerperks. First a bit of background. Peerindex helps social media contributors assess and score their influence and benefit from the social capital they have built up measuring influence by looking at activity, audience and authority.

Earlier this year they introduced Peerperks which offered influencers perks ranging from a free set of Guinness goblets or free business cards to private jet excursions to Dublin, VIP film awards parties and personalised Crossfit sessions. Great free stuff for doing what you do online anyway.

These perks often came from large companies such as Guinness, Virgin or Reebok, but now Peerindex are introducing Perklets and what's interesting about this is its not a large corporation mass marketing its way into your life, this is an opportunity for local small businesses to grow their presence in the vicinity with targeted perks. Being a Shoreditch based company these have initially been rolled out to those based in London only (but I'm sure the rest of the country will follow as these prove popular).

Being only targeted to those that are local offers an increased chance of repeat customers and also gives you a chance to experience new places which you might not have discovered without the incentive. For the businesses they can offer a deal to an influencer who may share it amongst their followers, with whom they have 'clout' (which happens to be the name of a competitor, albeit inferior in my opinion).

I like this move and see it as a positive move, not only for Peerindex, but for local businesses. Kind of reminds of the way a Groupon can help boost traffic to local businesses but with a much more sustainable and value adding model!

Anyway here is a little bit about the first batch of Perklets from peerindex themselves:

The first batch of Perklets caters to the tech-heavy, and art driven areas of Silicon Roundabout and Shoreditch. Perklets include free lunches and coffees, breakfasts for an entire week, haircuts, bike products and special invites to gallery openings. Participating companies are:

(Each link to the corresponding deal)

Orange Buffalo – one of the hottest food pop-up in Shoreditch

Jester Jacques - Private viewing of new art exhibition

Shoreditch Grind – perhaps one of the most famous independent coffee shops in London

GRAB Food – fresh Thai Street Kitchen serving the Startups

Kaizo - Leading Hairdresser right in the heart of the Shoreditch Triangle

Big Apple Hot Dogs – Brand new and inspired by New York

The Bicycle Man – leading Shoreditch bicycle store

I've got my free breakfast for a week from GRAB and a Big Apple Hotdog on the way so grab yourself a deal today. Or even better get your business featured as a Perklet.

This is a pilot programme so please PeerIndex is open to hear from other local businesses and hear from users’ experiences. @peerindex #perklets partners@peerindex.com
