Trip Adler is an American entrepreneur and founder of scribd, a company he started after graduating from Harvard University where he studied biophysics.

Scribd is a Web 2.0 based document-sharing website which allows users to post documents of various formats, and embed them into a web page using its iPaper format.

The scribd idea came to him when he began having difficulties of publishing academics papers.

After numerous conversations with his dad and no-one was solving the problem, he decided to take the idea to the next level, eventually teaming up with two other co-founders and they eventually launched the company in March 2007.

Prior to the launch, the company got funding $12,000 funding from ycombinator after attending Y Combinator event in Cambridge in the summer of 2006.

Since then, the company has grown by traffic numbers and influence on the web and in their industry,
in 2008, it ranked as one of the top 20 social media sites by Comscore, but too long ago, they closed a deal with Simon & Schuster to sell eBooks on Scribd.

In April 2010 Scribd launched a new feature called "Readcast" which allows automatic sharing of documents through Facebook

Scribd has currently more than 50 million users and it hosts more than 10 million documents. Scribd's documents are embedded more than 10 million times across the web and more than 1.8 million searches are conducted on Scribd's website every day.

Scribd also utilizes Google Advertisements for revenue generation.

Although they have been lots of copyright infrigments from the company but i seriously thought if anything strong will knock the company down, if facebook can avoid or delay so much law suits, why they can’t.
