Matthew Barnes, is to become the UK Managing Director of Aldi, he will replace Paul Foley, who left in August. Matthew Barnes has been with the Australian branch for around three years. Matthew Barnes was a regional director in the UK before going to work in Australia.

He opened Aldi's Manchester city centre store, which is a more up market outlet. He has reputedly done very well in Australia, described as a 'terrific job'.

Aldi's sales in the UK have begun to slow, but with the recession many shoppers have tried Aldi and their main rival Lidl, for the first time, and no doubt are hoping to retain many of these customers.
