Our startup of the week, this week is Appear Here.
Use Appear Here to find and book pop up shop space. This is a great way for shopping spaces to fill unused space for short term use. It also means small businesses can find high traffic outlets to boost their profile and sales during a short term let.
Currently you can find spaces in 7 locations in the UK, Bath, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Manchester. London even includes 4 underground stations.
Appear Here have opened up a world of new locations for companies who want to use a space for a short term. For some it may be to use for hosting workshops, for some it may be to find a high traffic location during a holiday period, or it may be a pop up restaurant or even office space.
What's great is Appear Here sort out all the legals with landlords, so you can just book a space simply and quickly as possible.
The online marketplace for short term rental of retail outlets has so far raised £1million in funding. The 21 years old founder Ross Bailey, who also left school at the age of 16, started Appear Here after his own experience of running a pop up shop.
The UK startup is just over a year olds but British entrepreneur Bailey and his team have already managed to sign up over 3,000 Brands and retailers.
I think it is a great idea and has a huge opportunity as more online brands look to interact with consumers offline and will turn to short term projects in pop up shops to do this.
It also helps provide a solution to the problem of the disappearing high streets. With less and less need for long term retail presence on the high street as more and more companies make use of online retail, appear Here helps fill unused retail space during the gaps as landlords look to fill the space in the long term.
I'm sure as they continue to grow in the UK and prove the business model as they scale across the UK, we'll be seeing Appear Here, appear in other big cities across Europe and further afield.
