Check out the full interview below.
Hi Talan, Thanks for doing this interview with me, How are you doing today?
I'm doing great, thanks for asking! My girlfriend has the flu but other than that I am just preparing for the relaunch of CyberInterns.com ;)
Can you quickly give the readers some background information about yourself?
I was born and raised in Laguna Beach, California…I know my life was sooooo terrible. After high school I moved to Los Angeles and found a small bit of success in the entertainment industry. After which, I wanted to fulfill my lifelong passion of being a small business owner. I love yellow chicken curry and have a passion of industrial design )Funny enough I know nothing about industrial design I just obsess over it)
Can you tell us what you've been getting up to since leaving Laguna Beach? Tell us about some of the projects that you've been involved in?
I acted in a couple movies and co-wrote an adaptation of the award winning novel "Fat Kid Rules The World" which is being directed by Matthew Lillard as I type this. I then interned at Lunch.com and Weed Road Productions before starting CyberInterns.com.
How has the transition been? From a "ladies man" to the "business man"?
Funny enough I have been in relationships most of my young adult life (I am in a very happy one now ;), but the transition has been extremely easy…I guess?
Have you always been entrepreneurial, or is it something you picked along the way?
I have been an entrepreneur since a I was a child. When I was 11 years old I had my first business where I created rash guards that skimboarders would wear under their swim trunks called "Banana Hammocks". It didn't take off but I did learn a lot about running my own business.
So tell us about Cyberinterns.com, what is it about?
We help startups and small business owners connect with students and young professionals seeking virtual internships. Because of the major dip in the economy, virtual interns help small businesses save money on overhead costs and provide students the education they need to succeed. It's a win-win for both parties.
So what inspired you to start it, what is the story behind it?
I was actually looking for an internship online an came across a couple virtual internships. I fell in love with the concept immediately and felt this niche was a great platform to start a business on. With the advances in technology, the concept of a virtual internship is possible. The idea is that someone who lives in a Nebraska can get a social media internship in London. This is possible because virtual interns work remotely.
How have you been marketing the platform? How have you being funding the business so far? Personal or outside investment?
We have been lucky enough to have been written about in some major media outlets. But with all the newfound attention we need to grow our business fast. We received a small amount of funds from an angel investor who believed in our concept and shut down the website to make it more beneficial for both the intern and the small business owner.
What would you say has been the most difficult part of setting up the business?
The most difficult part of setting up the business has been deciding whether or not to work on it full time. Let me say that I have been actively working on it full time for the last two weeks and things are progressing much faster than they were before. It's a tough decision for entrepreneurs to decide when the right time is to stop making you business a part time gig.
When should we be expecting the launch of the website?
We have been working so hard on the site and appreciate everyones patience! We are hoping to have the website relaunched later next week (July 27-29) You can be notified of the exact date we are relaunching Cyber Interns but going to our website www.CyberInterns.com, liking us on Facebook.com/CyberInterns, or following us on Twitter.com/CyberInterns
What is an average workday like for you?
I wake up at 9 a.m., eat a bowl of captain crunch, read my daily tech/internet blogs, and work on the website.
Thanks for your time Talan
No worries I really appreciate it!
