Nick Proctor Founder of Amber Energy Consultants

Entrepreneurs - Posted: March 7, 2011

Nick Proctor

Founded in 2009, Amber Energy Consultants provide tailored energy management for businesses hoping to reduce energy consumption and/or reduce their energy costs.

Amber Energy Consultants are not energy suppliers; instead, they provide impartial advice and research into the most cost and energy efficient contracts for their clients.  They work with all major UK suppliers in order to find an appropriate energy solution tailored to the businesses needs.  They provide fixed price contracts, flexible price options and basket agreements with clients.

The company was started by Nick Proctor from a room in his parent’s house in order to keep running costs of the business to a minimum.  Proctor felt that starting as a small business allowed all employees to gain a full understanding of initial problems and solutions that new businesses constantly face.  The small size of Amber Energy Consultants also allows them to react more quickly than their competitor’s to the perpetually changing energy consumption industry.

In 2009, Nick had recently completed the RBS graduate scheme.  He rejected their offer of a substantial promotion in order to focus on, and start, his business.  Nick realised that through starting his own business, he would have no limitations.  In order to raise the initial funds, he moved home, took a personal loan and worked part time in the evenings and week-ends.  He started by collecting feedback from anyone and everyone he could talk to about his business venture and initially used his relationship with a competitor to get his ‘foot in the door’.

Nick realised that many businesses were either repeatedly being overcharged, or continually let down by energy intermediaries and suppliers.  As a result, most businesses were changing suppliers almost every year.  Proctor and his team wanted to create long term, cost efficient energy solutions for businesses.  Amber Energy Consultants puts emphasis on the client’s specific needs in order to secure tailor made, long term contracts with their clients.  They not only uniquely research the business’s present situations, but they also look at their long-term goals to identify the best solutions.  Proctor now advertises with Google adwords and LinkedIn, in order to keep costs to a minimum.

Nick has stated that in order to create successful businesses, it is important to stand up to competitors, take a unique approach to the industry sector, and do things for free at first, in order to build strong client relationships, as it is these relationships that are the key to success.

Despite Amber Energy Solutions only being founded 2009, they have already reached the finals of ‘Young Entrepreneurs of the Year 2010’ and the ‘Future 100’.  The company has made savings in excess of £150, 000 and have presented to figures such as Duncan Bannatyne, Emma Jones, Doug Richard and many more.  Nick Proctor and his team are currently creating a support network for energy reductions ideas in order to create energy efficient solutions of businesses.  Proctor hopes that this expansion and the company’s client care policy will soon make Amber Energy Consultants the UK’s leading energy management company.
