Weekly sales at the John Lewis department store were up 13.3 per cent for the week to October 10 compared to the same period last year.
The John Lewis Partnership reported strong improvements in their weekly results, which showed that Waitrose sales were up by 14.8 per cent for the same week, helping increase total sales by 14.2 per cent.
A spokesman for John Lewis welcomed the improvements made in week 36 but urged: “We need to maintain balance and perspective; we are up against soft figures from the height of last year’s finance sector turmoil and also have the added contribution of our stunning new shop in Cardiff.”
Total sales for the 10 weeks to October 10 also showed a strong increase from 2008, with total sales up 8.2 per cent on last year.
